Community Outreach

PHI Reaches Out to Communities It Serves

PHI and our employees take pride in our close ties to the communities we serve, which include portions of Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, Virginia and all of the District of Columbia. PHI is a generous corporate donor and our employees have a long and proud tradition of volunteerism in our communities, logging in thousand of hours of volunteer service each year. Our commitment and involvement takes many forms.

Emergency Services Partnership Program

PHI utility personnel have forged close, ongoing ties with firefighters, police departments and other emergency services providers and first responders. This facilitates coordinated communications during emergencies with a strong emphasis on safety. For example, we perform live demonstrations on the proper way to battle electrical fires. PHI is especially well qualified to perform such demonstrations because many of our employees are volunteer firefighters themselves. We have also produced a training video on how to fight electrical fires and made it available free of charge to fire departments.

Speakers Bureau

PHI has an active Speakers Bureau and our employees frequently address community and business groups on a wide range of topics, ranging from information on electric industry deregulation to guidance on how to conserve energy and save on utility bills.

Environmental Initiatives

PHI is especially proud of our proactive involvement in environmental initiatives. In addition to our strong commitment to good environmental stewardship our employees are involved in a broad range of volunteer activities to enhance the environment.

Throughout our service territory our employees are involved in river and coastal cleanup activities, recycling programs and a host of other proactive initiatives. Our utility subsidiaries have forged strong ties with environmental organizations and work closely with local, state and federal agencies.
