Employment of Relatives

It is the business policy of Pepco Holdings, Inc and its affiliates (together, the Company) to consider members of a current employee's immediate family for employment solely on the basis of the ability to perform a job at the Company. Family and personal relationships are not to create conflicts of interests, or the appearance of such a conflict, or otherwise adversely affect the Company.

Immediate family, for the purpose of this business practice, is a spouse, domestic partner, parent, child, sibling, in-law, aunt, uncle, niece, nephew, grandparent, grandchild, and anyone who is a member of an employee's household.

Generally, employees who become immediate family members may continue their employment as long as it does not present a conflict of interest or the appearance of such a conflict or otherwise adversely affect the Company, except that:

  • Employees involved in hiring, promotion or other employment decisions involving or affecting an immediate family member shall remove themselves from the employment decision; and
  • Immediate family members shall not be in a supervisor/subordinate employment relationship at the Company.

If such a situation does occur, attempts will be made to find a suitable vacant position to which one of the employees will transfer.

Nothing within this Corporate Business Policy is intended to limit any PHI organization from applying more detailed standards or from establishing organizational policies addressing this or similar issues.
