Building Blocks
The five building blocks that create the foundation of PHI’s environmental stewardship not only help form the basis of human and ecological relationships, but aid in demonstrating sound management of social and economic issues. They define our corporate social responsibility towards our employees, business partners, suppliers, customers and communities to care for the natural resources that are entrusted to us.
Pollution Prevention
Those elements that prevent the release of future toxic substances into the environment and reduce the generation of solid waste. It encompasses such initiatives as source reduction, hazardous waste minimization and recycling. Pollution prevention practices can serve to reduce the long-term cost of compliance.
Environmental Compliance
Those elements that are associated with current operations, such as wastewater discharge, sewage treatment, air emissions and hazardous waste/materials management.
Environmental Restoration
Those elements that mitigate the environmental footprint/impact of PHI operations, past, present and future.
Natural Resources Management
Those elements that pertain to the management, conservation and restoration of land and renewable natural resources (such as forests, wetlands, fish and wildlife).
Education and Community Outreach
Those elements that increase environmental awareness in the communities in which we operate; improve public acceptance of our business and industry as a whole; and communicate our commitment to environmental stewardship.
