Pepco Energy Services was selected to
implement a comprehensive energy savings performance contract for Sarah Bush
Lincoln Health System in Mattoon, Ill.
Pepco Energy Services installed more
than $3 million in energy conservation measures and infrastructure for 12
buildings, including a hospital, medical centers, office buildings and clinics.
The project included exterior LED lighting retrofits, building automation
system upgrades, water conservation measures, steam system improvements,
ventilation system retrofits and building envelope sealing.
In addition to saving energy, these
upgrades dramatically enhanced the lighting surrounding the buildings, while
improving the patient and work environment through improved air distribution
control and reduced infiltration. The new and improved energy infrastructure is
guaranteed by Pepco Energy Services to reduce energy consumption by more than
22 percent, saving the health center more than $334,000 annually. Overall this
project reduced the annual carbon footprint for Sarah Bush Lincoln by 4.4
million pounds, which is equivalent to the carbon reduction capability of 1,656
acres of trees.
Construction began in mid-2013 and is
scheduled to be completed in the spring of 2014.
