Pepco Holdings Announces Corporate Communications Promotions

WASHINGTON D.C. – Pepco Holdings, Inc. (PHI) has announced the promotions of two of its Corporate Communications team members, Myra Oppel and Courtney Nogas. Both moves are effective immediately.

Oppel, regional director of communications, Pepco, has been promoted to regional communications vice president for PHI. In this role, Oppel will serve as the primary communications interface across all of PHI to ensure communications alignment and execution. She also will oversee and direct the media relations teams for the overall PHI enterprise and its Pepco, Delmarva Power and Atlantic City Electric utilities.
Nogas, senior media relations manager, will succeed Oppel as regional director of communications, Pepco. She will lead the media relations team serving as the key communications lead and coordinator facilitating and meeting all internal and external communications needs. She will also continue to manage the implementation of a comprehensive and integrated thought leadership strategy for PHI.
Oppel began her career in communications more than three decades ago as a reporter and editor for newspapers in Tupelo and Biloxi, Miss. She joined The Associated Press in 1990 as a newswoman in its Jackson, Miss., bureau then transferred to Hartford, Conn.
She left the AP to move to Northeast Utilities, where she was corporate spokesperson and headed Media Relations. She left NU in 1997 and worked as an award-winning political media consultant and general public relations consultant until 2012, when she joined PHI as regional director of communications for Pepco to lead the Media Relations team.
Oppel graduated magna cum laude from the University of Mississippi with a bachelor’s degree in journalism. She is an accredited PR professional by the Public Relations Society of America.
Nogas has over 10 years’ experience in media relations and communications. She began her career in television in Hartford, Conn., as a sports assistant with responsibilities for covering The New York Yankees, The Hartford Wolfpack, and UConn Men’s and Women’s Basketball. In 2004, she transitioned into media relations and worked for the New Britain Rock Cats, the Double-A affiliate for the Minnesota Twins, in New Britain, Conn., as its day-to-day media relations contact. Nogas then served as sports information director at the University of Bridgeport in Bridgeport, Conn., where she was the liaison between the university, the student-athletes, and local and national media.
Before joining PHI in 2012, Nogas served as director of public affairs at the Air-Conditioning, Heating, and Refrigeration Institute in Arlington, Va., where she was responsible for the association’s media relations, communications and social media efforts.
Nogas holds a bachelor’s of arts degree in communications from the University of Connecticut.
