PHI Earns Two Awards for Emergency Recovery and Emergency Assistance
WASHINGTON D.C. – Pepco Holdings, Inc. (PHI) has received two Edison Electric Institute (EEI) 2012 awards for its restoration and its assistance to other utilities after Hurricane Sandy on Oct. 29.
EEI presents the Emergency Recovery Award and Emergency Assistance Award each year to recognize extraordinary efforts undertaken in restoring electric service to customers and to other utility companies whose service has been disrupted by severe weather conditions or other natural events.
“It is a privilege to accept this honor on behalf of the thousands of PHI employees who serve our nearly 2 million customers every day but especially during a crisis,” said Joseph M. Rigby, PHI chairman, president, and CEO.
PHI was chosen to receive the awards by following an international nomination process.
“PHI was faced with a major restoration effort following Hurricane Sandy,” said EEI President Tom Kuhn. “Getting the lights back on quickly and safely is never easy following these natural disasters. Working through the industry’s mutual assistance program, PHI crews were essential in helping their fellow utility companies restore service in affected neighborhoods. Importantly, PHI’s assistance also shows their compassion in helping others in their time of need. I congratulate them.”
