Electric Light & Power named Joseph M. Rigby, PHI’s Chairman, President and CEO, as CEO of the Year for his strong leadership on cyber security measures on behalf of PHI’s customers, employees, stakeholders and our nation’s capital.
EnergyBiz magazine named PHI “Energy Company of the Year” for its 2013 efforts during its annual KITE Awards ceremony and Securing Power forum in March 2014, in Washington, D.C.
Thomas H. Graham, Vice President, People Strategy & Human Resources, received the Distinguished Partners Award by the Baltimore-Washington chapter of the National Association of Securities Professionals (NASP). The NASP is a national nonprofit membership-based organization of minority and female professionals in the securities industry. Graham was recognized for his leadership and excellence in management and for his commitment to the PHI Community Foundation, which serves low-income residents in the greater Washington area. Over the last eight years, the organization has raised over $1.7 million.
For Chartwell Inc.’s Best Practices Awards, PHI won bronze in the Outage Communications category for our outage communications tools, vehicles and strategies. Chartwell is a specialized information provider that helps utilities improve their customer experience and ultimately customer satisfaction. Chartwell publishes case studies; quantitative research and industry data; and hosts conferences and other events for utility professionals.
The Volunteer Center of South Jersey gave Atlantic City Electric a 2013 Corporate Excellence award for showing social responsibility and exemplary commitment to service in the community.
The N.J. Fire Prevention & Protection Association presented its 2013 President’s Award to Atlantic City Electric in recognition of its Emergency Services Partnership Program and contributions to reducing fire-related deaths and injuries as a corporate sponsor of the New Jersey State Fire Prevention Poster Contest. For many years, Atlantic City Electric has paid for the cost of printing copies of the winning poster for statewide distribution. Atlantic City Electric also supported this year’s new feature which included a calendar format in which all of the divisional winning posters are displayed.
The United Way of the Lower Eastern Shore honored Delmarva Region Vice President John Allen for exemplifying compassionate, philanthropic leadership through involvement in several community organizations.
PRDaily in 2013 gave our Corporate Citizenship and Social Responsibility department an honorable mention for programming in the Pepco Edison Place Gallery from 2012. The honor was specifically for two partnerships—an exhibit on Life Pieces to Masterpieces "Courage on Canvas" and the United Nations Association of the National Capital Area Business Forum for Global Classrooms.
The Washington Business Journal honored Pepco for corporate philanthropy in its service region. The business journal said that of the many hundreds of organizations operating in the Washington metropolitan area, the company ranked No. 13 in financial giving and No. 24 for total employee volunteer hours to the community.

Pepco employees Donny Pfeifer and Sean Cecil, lead line mechanics, and Ryan Callahan, line mechanic, received awards from the chief of the Prince George’s County, Md., fire and emergency medical services department for their actions at the scene of a house fire in October 2012.
