To reduce environmental risks and foster continuous
improvement, we have implemented Environmental Compliance Audit and
Self-Assessment Programs. Through these programs, facility and company-wide
operations undergo periodic evaluations of how they are meeting regulations and
the effectiveness of our environmental management system.
We use a holistic approach for auditing a broad range of
company activities. Each operating area is required to participate in periodic audits
of their facilities or programs. They also are routinely asked to self-assess
their operations to ensure day-to-day activities are in accordance with
applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations, and in conformance
with company policies and procedures. After any audit or review is complete,
findings and recommended areas of improvement are entered into an environmental
audit tracking system. Corrective action tasks are issued to responsible
management teams and tracked to ensure appropriate resolution of the identified
risks.
We also designate an environmental compliance officer for
each of our facilities. Compliance officers are responsible for certifying each
facility quarterly. The certification is intended to attest that facility
operations and activities were conducted during the quarter in compliance with
all applicable laws and regulations as verified through the Environmental
Compliance Audit and Self-Assessment Programs and other routine site compliance
inspections.
